Topic tags/keywords: large swing frame large porch swing

Hello,

I’m trying to design and build a frame for an 8’ wide porch swing. My father was given this giant porch swing as a house-warming present over 20 years ago, and it sits in storage because he has never figured out how to hang it up. As you can see by the photos, it makes a nice shelf in his shed. For Father’s Day (probably a late present now), I would like to design and build a frame that could support the weight of this swing. After looking at several projects on this page (as well as some internet searches), my biggest worry is building a frame wide enough that can support the weight across the top beam.

I am new to this page, and relatively new to woodworking, so I would appreciate any help.

Thank you,
Rob

Think “Hammock frame” or stand,

It doesnt have to be a over head bar style. You could even convert it to a rocker, and not a swing!

You could use metal, for framing, a few option if you really want to get wild, put it on some wheels!

I hope I helped a bit!

Have your say...
