So i have read that laguna customer service ain’t so great. I am seriously considering the dovetail machine. the rep says i could have to my door for 16. By the time i pay tax and shipping on a grizzly 6091, I will have the same investment. It seems that they are the same machine? other than the laguna has the dovetail ways for blade lift. I don’t know how much customer service you need, I have never had customer service on either of the saws i now have as they were both used when i got them. I have been looking on craigslist for some time for a unisaw or something in my area and can usually only find 3 phase or one that they want 15-16 for. Seems that if i could have a new saw for that i could be happy. Ultimatlely the saws will do the same thing? Are there any solid reasons I shouln’t buy laguna? Thanks T

I know the Grizzly comes with a US made Leeson motor…not sure about the Laguna. Where are you located that you’ll need to pay both s/h and sales tax?

the laguna does have a lesson motor and there customer service is not what people make it out to be. i posted this in another string but i am going to post here and else were because at a time when i was trying to save money it was hard to discern what i should get with all the negative comments about the different brands.

i would like to up date on whats been said. i have done a lot of research on table saws in the last mouth. i looked at all the big names and compared every feature and found this. the delta, jet and powermatics all come with bells and whistles that make life easy. no one is going to disagree that a powermatic is worth all the pennies. the mid range jet is really nice for the money. as for the grizzly, laguna, steel city, and all the others, the laguna is by far the better saw. i ended up getting the higher end model with dovetail trunnions. the reason i went with this saw is that despite all the bad comments i read, this saw has more to offer than a lot of you think. not only is it a great price, but the fence system is in my opinion way better than a powermatic. there are no plastic parts, the arbor and trunnions are pretty f*ing beefy, it comes stock with a four horse motor. has a really nice table and looks good to. did i mention it’s as stable as any other saw and performs just like a powermatic. and i should know i have worked on all the big ones including saw stops. and i run them hard too. now, when i received it it was missing the motor cover and it was not lagunas fault. a little known secret, the freight company’s that ship our products very often break down pallets for various reason and sometimes they don’t always put things back the way they were. i used to be a receiving agent for a large health care company and we always got pallets with missing boxes. its the guy loading the truck at the dc that’s responsible. so i called laguna horrified that all the reviews i had read were true and nothing would be done about this. i talked to the receptionist and told her what had happened and she gave me a case number. i thought i was doomed and that this would take forever to get taken care of. i sat down and started to wounder if i made a poor decision and was this saw really worth what i paid for it. right then the phone rang and it was a customer service rep from laguna. i explained what happened and he said he would take care of it immediately. i got off the phone felling skeptical. 10 minutes later he called me back and said he shipped it and i should expect it by the end of the following week. i am sure they have had a past of employees that were all about the money and didn’t care about the little customer, but i think they have a really good team so far and i am considering getting more tools from them. the school i went to has one of there band saws and a horizontal boring machine that work great. i know for a fact that this saw is worth the money i paid and it will last a life time. this thing is really what they claim. the lower end model they have is i believe the model every one is fussing about. it is very comparable to a grizzly and other lower end model saws. the thing is, if your on a budget and you want the best saw for the money then get the higher end laguna. it’s only 2100 and i am sure you can talk with them and get a deal? it is basically a high end saw with out all the crap. really, how necessary is a push button arbor lock or a built in mobile base. the one thing i have learned is that a cabinet saw is only as good as the person using it. i just wonder how many people have to wait for poor customer service from the big names. i am certain it is more then every one thinks. get the laguna.

I don’t have experience with that saw, but I have several Laguna machines. Across the board, I think they deliver a very high price/performance ratio. Their customer service has been excellent for me, although there are others who have complained over the last few years.

I think that right now you can benefit from the hits their customer service reputation has taken over the last couple of years—on the one hand, I believe they have made great strides in improving their customer service, but on the other hand, their prices still reflect the fact that they the market is discounting their products based on some of the hits their reputation took over the past few years.

FWIW, I purchased several Laguna products at the same time I purchased a Grizzly wide belt sander. All of the products were excellent, but the build quailty of the Laguna produts were significantly superior. I had to deal with customer service from both Laguna and Grizzly for a few minor issues. While I had good experiences with both, I would definitely give Laguna significantly higher marks for customer service. That’s not a knock on Grizzly, as I am very happy with the Grizzly as well.

Since this thread has been resurrected from the dead, I’d like to take the opportunity to correct an error in my statement above…the Grizzly G0690/G0691 have an Asian made Leeson motor, not a USA made Leeson motor.
