Topic tags/keywords: finish pyrography

Hello, I am building a chess board and thinking about doing some pyrography onto the playing surface of the board. I was wondering what might be the best finish over the image. Obviously something clear and durable. Any help is appreciated. Also, should I stain in the chess squares and then burn and then finish, or burn then stain then finish

Burn first, backfill & light sand (just to remove smearing), then finish. Experiment on scraps first.

Char doesn’t have be be color matched if you’re backfilling.

Thanks. I haven’t stuck with a final decision on the design, but I do have a theme that I am exploring. I am as interested as anybody else to seeing what I finally settle on.

Have your say...
