Hey All,

I’m a bit of a CL junkie and am constantly checking the tools section to see what gems I might find.

There’s a guy who’s father-in-law recently passed and he’s got some machinery up for sale. He’s claims to not be at all knowledgeable about the stuff but here’s what I know.

He’s asking $700 for a Delta 34-802 and $500 for a Jet JWP-15CS planer. I’m pretty sure they’re a bit overpriced and I’d like your opinions on what you think a fair offer might be.

Pics below are all I have to go on.

Any and all opinions/advice is greatly appreciated.

Depends on the market. That would be worth it in mine. Not a deal but not a ripoff either if it’s just cosmetic stuff.

Edit: If he wasn’t willing to negotiate I’d probably pass.

If they are complete and in good working condition, those are not bad prices. The Unisaw should be a 3hp single phase machine, and it kind of looks like there might be a mortising attachment sitting on the side. The extension table with router cutout is also a plus. Only looks to be missing the blade guard/splitter, but it might be hiding somewhere in there. Also looks like a Unifence sitting in the background.

Cheers,
Brad

Unisaws sell for $1000+ here (NC).

The same (or similar) planer was posted here not too long ago for $900, I think.

Definitely area dependent, but those are excellent prices here and would sell very quickly.

Good eye, Brad! I didn’t even notice the Unifence sitting there. Never used one before. Are they any good? I’ve got a 52” Bies on my current saw and am pretty happy with it.

I’m in Nassau County, NY, Sloopmk. I see them pop up on CL from time to time but the prices are always all over the map. I figured factors such as the age of the machine (and the lack of modern safety features on the older saws) and the challenge of having to find someone willing to take a giant, heavy mass of iron out of one’s basement might give sellers the incentive to accept less for what was once an expensive piece of machinery. I’ve used Delta cabinet saws before but always in someone else’s shop. Great machines and probably more than I need. Never really had to consider how to accurately price them.

The saw in the pics looks like it’s in decent shape. The planer, not so much. Plus I don’t see the roller feed tables in the pics and there’s allot of rust on the bed and posts.

Looks like it has a Vega fence on it?
If you get both a Unifence and Vega, you might be able to get $200 for one of them.

If the only thing wrong with that planer is the rust, I’d buy it for $500. They’d probably take $425-$450.

They seem like they’re priced well to me.
