Found a guy selling a used delta 36-725. He says its 6 months old and he is moving. I got him down to $400. Is that a good deal for it if it’s in good shape? What should I be looking for to check? Any good videos or posts explaining what to check or do?

I paid $540 for my 36-725 at Lowes a couple months ago. I would have jumped on a 6 month old one for $400 if I’d found one. I’m very happy with the saw. There are many reviews and videos on the web, just google Delta 36-725 and you’ll be overwhelmed with results.

There is also a great. lengthy review on this site.

If the saw is mint and the warranty is still valid, it’d be a good deal IMO. If not, I’d work some coupons and get new one.

He said he doesn’t have the original receipt. Think I can get any information about warranty with just a serial number?

I’m sure you can call delta with the serial for date of manufacture and warranty info.

I have one, and also would have jumped on a 6 month old one for that price.

Just found out from Delta they don’t transfer warranties. So I would be out of luck if anything went wrong. Ugh! I don’t know what to do.

The good news is that most devices that are going to have a premature failure will incur failure very early on. Otherwise they tend to perform as expected for the duration of their intended service life, given proper maintenance. That’s one of the benefits of having a slightly used saw vs a 10 year old saw that’s still new in the box….it’s been through the initial testing phase. That doesn’t mean that nothing will ever go wrong with it, but the odds are in your favor for the extended future. Because of the lack of warranty, I’d try to push for a bit more price reduction. It really boils down to your comfort level, how you feel about the used price vs new price, etc.

I would go see it in person and check it over really well and if everything is good go for it. If he has been using it and has not had any issues so far it should be good.

I would still buy it if in good shape even without the warranty for $400. Has the current owner registered the saw for the warranty? Some people don’t bother.

Doubt he registered it for warranty but he doesn’t have the receipt either. Pretty sure you need the receipt in order to have the warrant.

If you buy the saw, it won’t hurt to setup a Delta member account and try to register the saw as long as you know the saw wasn’t registered by the current owner. I think when registering you just have to say where the saw was purchased and when. Just claim it was a cash sale and you lost the receipt.

Edit: Looked at the registration and it appears very simple, looks like you don’t even have to say exactly where it was purchased. You can say it was a gift. Warranty service requires a proof of purchase receipt or a product registration number. So it appears you could register the saw if the current owner hasn’t. The one positive is that you wont have to go through the chaotic build process! :)

If I remember correctly (as I just bought one from Lowes), the S/N format looked like it has the date in it. Mine had a 2015 in it…

Gonna pick the saw up today. I did register it with no issues as a gift but still concerned if something goes wrong won’t be able to get support.

Anyone know what a product registration number is?

??? It’s the number you get after registering it online. Go into the account you created and look at registered products and you should see the registration number.

Edit: Correction, I went and looked at my registration and all I see listed is the S/N, so I guess you use that as the registration number when calling for service.

Well I purchased the saw and it definitely looks brand new. We had to take the rails off the make it fit through the door.

I am a noob still so I am sure this is a dumb question but..I had a question about the rip fence. The far side of the fence is dragging along the table. It doesnt appear to have a height adjustment that I can see like the closer side does. The only thing I can think of is maybe you can shim the far side. Is it as simple as finding someplace that sells a plastic piece I could try and fit In there? Or is there a company that makes one that is meant to fit there?

It could be you didn’t get the rail back on as high as it should be. See if you can move it up a little. Also the manual should be checked. good luck and good woodworking. larry
