Does anyone have any recommendations as to a good company to purchase pen supplies. So far I tried Wood Craft and they get kind of blah pretty fast as to their selection. I tried Penn State but was very, very unhappy was the way they do business. Orders are shipped partial and after they ship it then they notify you of a back order of the pen kit with no know restocking date. Now I have bushings coming that are useless without the pen kit that as far as I know will never come. Another time I went to order a kit that they listed as out of stock. I put my name on the waiting list for it. I was notified to process the waiting order because the kit came in. I did and after it was shipped they notified me the pen was on back order with no restock date known. It took them a long time to get the order into the system. I wrote to them about this but I didn’t get an answer yet. So I am still in need of a reliable pen distributor with a good selection to choose from. Does anyone know of other places to purchase pens?
Thanks,
Tom

I have had good luck with these folks: http://www.woodturningz.com/ ... good selection, fair prices, fast shipping.

I’ve had good luck with William Wood-Write (http://www.penblanks.ca/home.php). They are a Canadian company but with the way the Canadian dollar is right now that might be great for you.

Not sure why James link doesn t work

It is the parenthesis () on either side of the URL … the LJ software includes them in the URL link, making it a non-existent address.

Although I purchased from Craft supply once before I never tried them for pens so I will do that. The others are new to me so thanks for the info. I did contact William Wood Right in Canada and they don’t ship outside of Canada. If I am wrong about this please let me know. Thanks again. If you think of other please let me know. By the way are any of you satisfied with Penn State Inc ?

Sorry about the faulty link. I just checked their website and it appears as of 3 April 2016 they are only shipping in Canada. That is news to me too.

Their products and prices are okay, but their shipping (and in my case, customer service) leave a bit to be desired. They use some shipping expeditor service, the tracking numbers often don’t work, and stuff never arrives in a timely manner. A year or so back, I ordered a ‘Mandrel Saver’. I got a notice that it had shipped via USPS, but it never arrived. After about two weeks, I called to see if they could track it or ship me one and the guy I spoke with basically accused me of stealing the original and trying to get them to ship a second one free. He ultimately agreed to ship one so long as I promised to return the replacement when the original arrived. It never has.

BTW, the ‘Mandrel Saver’ I did receive is a piece of junk … bearing creams like banshee.

I second or third the penblanks.ca recommendation. However, if you are in the US and want to buy in the US, try here.

Ernie is a great guy to deal with, ships quickly and stocks a large selection of kits.

Pretty much what I experience. To bad because like you said their products are okay, and I think they can have a much greater following after fixing a few problem areas and possibly attitudes. To bad about your mandrel saver. I really never har of a madrel savior.

Hey Grant! (Waves) How goes it. ?
I’ve used Ernie also and he’s great.
He’s got a great selection but they are a bit pricey for custom lengths. If you are in the US and have a bandsaw you could get these round 40” blanks.

At one time if knew Berea, Crafts Supplies, and PSI resellers pretty much had it made. Exotic Blanks was the last reseller of Craft Supplies pen kits now there are no resellers for Craft Supplies.

At one time Wood Craft sold Berea kits & supplies exclusively that’s not true today. Depending on franchise may also find DayaCom, & PSI kits there as well.

Many of Berea’s resellers also carry PSI supplies too!

Many of PSI resellers also carry less expensive kits WoodturningZ & Wood-N-Whimsies.
W-N-W also sells Berea & PSI line in addition to Hobby line (cheap) kits.

http://www.woodnwhimsies.com/

After some qualities issues with one PSI reseller stopped me buying from him years ago. Not the only one with problems and gent finally came clean about his cheap not PSI kits over at IAP. That same gent sold me cigar kits/ $3.95 less with quantity that came in Berea packaging with Berea instructions. Back then everyone sold chrome & gold cigar kits for $3.95 or less with quantity discount. Paid less for shipping less from him.
Thanks to him found Berea Hardwoods, and their shipping less than his.

Stay away from economy kits problems run from plating failures, unable to assemble a pen due to poor quality kits. All venders seem to have an economy line of kits to sell you today.

Many Berea resellers sell PSI gear today so if like their stuff someone other than PSI can help you. Craft Supplies buys & sells Dayacom kits + economy kits. Of course few other vendors also sell same kits.

If this link works can see recommended vendors list over at IAP.

Thanks everyone. You mention many places to buy from that I didn’t know about. I have already looked into a few and will be sure to look at the the rest.
