For some reason, I can’t find any of the type of hinge shown above. Does anyone know the name for them? The two pictures show how they are fastened, and how they look from the outside. As you can see, an average butt hinge wouldn’t work.

Just looks like a ordinary narrow hinge to me.

Unless there something else I’m missing in the pics?

If I am seeing the picture right you want the barrel of the hinge to be proud of the surface. While not exactly like those in the picture, check out the “non-mortise” hinges at Rockler. They would do what you want to do.

That’s right kazooman, I want the barrel to be proud. However I can’t have the style that Rockler carries, it needs to be like the one shown in the photo.
JayT, The problem with the one you show, is that it can’t be folded enough for the barrel to be proud of the surface.

I’m with JayT. Looks like an ordinary narrow butt hinge. What do you mean by ”it can’t be folded enough for the barrel to be proud of the surface” ?

Here’s a narrow butt hinge in what I think is your situation:

Sorry, about the misunderstanding. I checked with a hinge I had, and I don’t know why I though it wouldn’t work…

Have your say...
