Anyone use Simply Accounting software?

Ok, I’ve got the product, had my little company for years, tried Quickbooks, but wanted training. Took a Simply Accounting course last fall and even bought (not pirated!) the software.
But…try to install it?? Get all the way through, get it registered, then try to download and install an update… Downloads okay, then the installer sits there, and sits there and sits there…

So, I quit, uninstall and re-try. four trips later, I wanna through the whole freaking machine through the window!!

I’m waiting to hear back from customer support… so I came here to vent, and see if anyone has done this…

Nope. I use Quickbooks Online. I let them deal with the update headaches… it’s $10/month for the basic. Pain the butt for doing a lot of entries at once (load time issues)... but great if you’re doing a little bit of entry every day.

Hi Lloyd,

I can certainly understand how frustrating this has been for you. Which version of Windows are you using? XP? Vista? Windows 7? Which version of Simply Accounting are you trying to install? The 2010 program? An older version perhaps? From your initial post it seems the installation goes through but where you’re having issues is after the product update downloads, you’re unable to install the update?

Have you tried clicking the “don’t download” button to the prompt you receive when you’re asked to download the update, then try opening the program? Are you finding that the program still isn’t opening after you do this? Did you call into support and were told you’d get a callback or did you post a question in the Discussion Forum and still waiting for a response?

If you’re wanting to install the update, you may want to trytemporarily shutting off your antivirus and firewall before downloading the update. After the update is installed, you can turn your antivirus and firewall back on. Also try saving the update to the “desktop” when prompted to download the update. Feel free to let me know if you have any more questions about this issue. I hope this helps.

Hi, Andrew,
Thanks for the tips. I actually did what you said, and before I tired to download, I turned off the anti-spyware program (Simply Accounting was supposed to turn off the firewall).
Anyway, it worked!

Sorry, I use GNUCash. Not for the timid, but without a doubt I know where my money is coming from and going to… And it’s not a pretty picture.
