I hope none of you have had the experience of having some really nice lumber completely ruined by powder post beetles while drying like I did several years back. I lost 12 hard to come by flawless magnolia boards 1” x 12” x 12’. When I checked them they looked like a sieve.
What I have learned:
Boric acid stops powder post beetle infestation. You can pick it up at any place that sells household pest control products as roach powder, such as Bengal and I am sure you can get it in bulk other places. The great thing is that it is totally harmless to humans, it is in many things household products such as toothpaste. I sprinkle it on the boards as I stack them and brush it around a little (both sides) and that’s it. Tried mixing with water but that does appear to be necessary. Sprinkle everywhere around your home and shop and no more roaches and other pest.

I have had problems with sticker stain on some lumber I have dried and some purchased.
What I have learned:
Use PVC electrical conduit. Relative inexpensive, uniform size and leaves no stain at all. PVC water pipe works as well but I found the conduit a little cheaper. I used 1/2” and had no deformation problems on some pretty heavy stacks.

Hope this comes in handy for someone.

Lets make some sawdust!

I dry quite a bit of lumber and I’ve NEVER had sticker stain “IF” I sticker the lumber right off the mill and “IF” I use DRY stickers to sticker with.

I mill my stickers ahead of time, and they are DRY when I use them, you can see them in their drying rack,

You have to let air pass through lumber as it’s drying, but keep the sun and rain off it…
