Could I be the only LJ to use a William and Hussey bench vise? I really like woodworking vises. I have had since I began woodworking with a Columbian 4×7 inch continuous screw and no dog in jaw to a Wilton rapid action 4×7 vise to a Columbian 4×10 inch rapid action vise made for Sears Craftsman line. In 1988 at the Woodworking Supply Fair at the Los Angeles convention center I saw a vise that really got me. The William and Hussey planer and molding machine was the front jaw for the vise the rear jaw was cast for the vise. It is a 4×10 inch continuous screw with dog in front jaw. It totally differs from the conventional metal woodworking vises. The vise has been discontinued by W&H probably due to its cost an its unconventionality. Due to my lack of knowledge for transporting pictures you’ll have to go to my workshop pic to see the vise. Thanks for the input. -- bobdurnell, Santa Ana California. |
