Hello to all:

Need some help and advice!! Looking to purchase a lathe duplicator, I presently use a General Maxi Variable speed lathe with the extension bed. I know that general has just come out with a new duplicator for the mini lathe. I am wondering if this is too small to use or should I look at the Vega etc. My concern is fit and function, never used one, but I have alot of turning to do and they are all the same. Just want to buy once.

Thanks and looking forward to hearing from you,

JB

The lathe duplicator offered by Rockler looks like it would fit just about any common lathe. I’ve been looking at it on the internet but I want to see it “in person” at a Rockler store before I make the purchase. There are 11 customer reviews online at the Rockler site and the reviews are, at best, mixed.

The Vega is expensive, to be sure, but worth the cost to me. We have one at work that cost twice what the cheap Rigid lathe it’s attached to did. This thing is tough though. The demo video that came with it shows being able to take 1/4” off in a single pass! I can’t on the set-up we have but it makes short work of any project I put on it. A little time to make a plexiglass or mdf template and you can repeat a part as often as you want. This one came with a HSS cutter and a carbide cutter with holder.

Hi,

I am a fan of Rockler, but I saw there duplicator and it did not impress me. I have only seen the vega work once and of course it was a demo and sales rep who knew how to use it etc. I am wondering if anyone has attempted to make one if so are there plans one could follow? Thanks for the feedback

I have a vega , as well as a dedicated SCMI duplicating lathe ( 5k), the vega wins every time , not cheap, but it performs beautifully , in my opinion stay with what has proven itself , i do not know of a bad review on the vega
