I post that for those who are thinking about buying a new saw. I have a R4511 and I love it.
I am not sure that this information is accurate, I just copied it from the Ridgid forum.

  • R4511 coming back*
I was at my local HD today. My local ridgid rep was there and we got to talking about the future of ridgid wwing tools. We specifically talked about the r4511 and its replacement. He stated that HD has decided to bring it back. He stated that HD asked Ridgid to bring back a stationary TS around the $500 pricepoint. Ridgid responded by bringing back the r4511. He showed me his manifest which shows 4 new 4511’s coming to my local store. A month ago the 4511 was clearenced out here at my local store, I gave my friend the upc off of my receipt from mine so that he could order it. HD stated clearenced-unable to order.

My local Ridgid rep stated that the saw is set to get an update sometime soon(probably a riving knife)...but it will most definitely keep the granite top. He stated that neither HD or Ridgid was loosing money on the granite top. He stated that they ship by the pallet, not by weight so it does not matter how heavy it is. Due to this, they will never come out with a one piece rail system for it as they want to keep shipping to one pallet per unit.

I asked him about any new tools coming out and he stated the big thing now is the jobmax tools. He stated that you can buy different heads online. I asked him about a new bandsaw, he stated and I quote “not anytime soon”.

He seemed pretty knowledgeable and as an owner of a 4511 I hope he is right. I hope more people get the chance to get one of these wonderful saws.

Can you spell “Schizophrenia”?

They really, really have to be joking??? I hope it true, but what a sack of blunders… I wonder if the person that wrote the assembly instructions was promoted to the marketing manager position….

Interestingly HD Canada did not discontinue carrying them and never did put them on sale (below their $700) price tag. They also advertised them in their annual 2010 tool catalog so I am not too surprised to see them coming back.

Another R4511 owner here and love it. I find its weight to be a plus since it makes for a very stable work surface and the two piece rail doesn’t seem to get in my way. The mobile base included with the saw works very well too and makes moving the almost 500 pound beast around the shop a breeze. I also agree the assembly instructions aren’t the greatest. It is smart for HD to start stocking this saw again, In my opinion they will continue to sell even at $500.

Another advantage; the granite is the perfect surface to sharpen my blades!!!

Lowes appears to have a new saw as well.

PORTER-CABLE 10” Cast Iron Stationary Table Saw with Caster Set
Item #: 101711 | Model #: PCB270TS

Does anyone know about this one?

After 2 broken Craftsman 21833’s that I had to return, I’m looking around again for an affordable one for my budget.

Wasn’t there some sort of recall on the rigid 4511?

Someone at work told me this when I was considering buying one.

It was a recall but the issue has no been fixed.
I recommend the R4511, this is an excellent saw.
You will love it guarantee.
I did no say that this is THE perfect saw but all together and for the price this might the the best saw on the market.
I would also check Harbor Freight cabinet saw, some one this forum wrote a very good review of it.
You could ask this person what is her opinion after using it for a few months.

It still is in the catalog I received yesterday.

The R4511 table saw’s arbor shaft can fail when used with a stacked blade set, the threads at the tip of the arbor shaft are brittle. RIDGID has received three reports of shafts failing when used with a stacked dado set. No injuries have been reported.

The recalled saws have manufacturing date codes between CD0829 and CD0837 (manufactured between the 29th and 37th weeks of 2008). Products with an “Arbor Inspected” sticker directly above the Serial Number plate or an orange square on the outside of the package are not included in the recall.

The porte Cable saw is NOT made by them. I got this email from Rebecca Matthews at PC/Dewalt.

“This is not made by our company. It is made by a company called REXON and they have the rights to brand it as Porter Cable. If you have a question on the product then you will need to contact them at the number I provided.”

I asked PC why the UL rating is negative according to Lowes. Sounds like a serious safety issue to me. I was surprised that PC would let people use their name and not have control of the product. What if someone gets hurt? Lawsuit in the making I guess.

Yes indeed, those who got this saw for only 200-300 blowout price are lucky. And what was the madness behind that price?
