I like to welcome new members. Lately there has been a few new members that do not care about woodworking, but only want to push their product or non-woodworking business. So now, when I view the new member list, if there is not a picture, or comment about themselves I do not make a welcome. I know that I am going to miss a few that just want to join now and comment later, but I do not want to wast my time giving a welcome those that have no interest in woodworking. -- "Hold on to instruction, do not let it go; guard it well, for it is your life" Solomon |

I usually don’t welcome new members until they make a post or two that I see… Then I welcome them there, at least if they are here for legit reasons. Spammers on the other hand have a special place set aside just for them… -- Please like and subscribe to my YouTube Channel https://www.youtube.com/c/daves-workshop |

Being a brand new member and an amateur woodworker, I really appreciated all of the welcome messages I got from everyone just moments after I had joined. I spent almost and entire work day looking thru the website and continue to waste time looking thru the forums and projects. Not sure its really wasting time since I have learned quite a few things already. Since I have been looking and reading I have not had the time to fully update my picture and all my information. I do plan to get it done but it just like all those things you tell your wife your gonna build for her… I will get to it one of these days. Edit: Thanks to all of you that have posted your welcome messages! Much appreciated! |

I try to welcome newbies if I recognize them as such. But, as with everything else time constraints and the sheer volume of posts sometimes make that impossible. As for SPAMMERS …”Don’t let the door knob hit ya where the alligator bit Ya” -- Larry "Work like a Captain but Play like a Pirate!" |

I have learned from the rest of the Internet that it is inadvisable to post “I’m new here” messages, or to share too much personal information. That’s why I never made a post about it :) I just jumped in and started commenting. -- You can get more with a kind word and a 2 by 4, than you can with just a kind word. |

I do welcomes for all joining members except those that are spammers. I remember when I joined, how nice it was to hear from so many right away. It gave me a feel of belonging well before I got a chance to post anything. I just wish there was some way that many of us that post regular welcomes could have some type of access to delete spammers when we run across them. -- Wayne - Plymouth MN |

I’m with Norm…I just joined and I thought the nice burst of ‘welcome to LJs’ comments to be very motivating to participate and start sharing. At first I thought I’d just sign up, check things out and maybe post a couple of projects after I figured out how things worked. The welcome I got was awesome, got me off my butt to post my first project and the response to that has been amazing. Having worked in IT for a long time, it’s easy to be jaded about anything on the internet, but after a while you tend to quickly filter out the spam and really appreciate when good content is present. So far, I’d say this place is loaded with good content. -- Ian - Life's a game, if you don't play, you can't win. |

I don’t generally welcome people, I prefer to comment directly on their projects, blogs, and forum posts… Though I must confess I sometimes look at a new LJ’s profile to see Todd C’s inspirational video. -- Derek, Bremerton WA -- |

Not very good at the “welcoming” part! Man there are a lot of new members every day, and I don’t feel like I have that kind of time! I do try to look at workshop pictures when people post ‘em. I also try to comment if it is something that interests me or I have some personal addition to the dialogue. |
