Topic tags/keywords: jointer Ok so it is down to a rigid jointer and a General international jointer that sears.ca has . the general is $170 more and has a bed length of 55 inchs. Is this increase in bed length worth the 170 bucks. Couldn’t find any reviews onthe general whereas the rigid has great reviews. Thanks again guys Pat |

The Ridgid is a nice machine. I’ve used one, but never owned one. They get great reviews. I’ve owned a few pieces of General International equipment (TS, Dual Drum Sander, Mortising Machine), but not the jointer. All of the GI tools I’ve had have been very good, and their customer support is outstanding. A big bed on a jointer is priceless when you are using it, but can take up an awful lot of space in the shop when it’s not in use. If you have the money and the space, I’d go with the GI. If money or space are tight, I think you’ll find the Ridgid will do a good job. -- http://www.peteroxley.com -- http://north40studios.etsy.com -- |

At my local tool store they just started (today) a promotion with 15% off on all General International tools. I think (not certain) that this is a nation wide sale. I don’t know if the sale extends to Canada. Nonetheless, you might want to check it out and see if the GI jointer is on sale. FYI – this sale lasts through Sunday. -- Rich, Cedar Rapids, IA - I'm a woodworker. I don't create beauty, I reveal it. |

I’ve had the Ridgid for about 4yrs. and have had zero problems with it through the years. A long bed is nice when your using it, but a pain when your not. HTH -- The older I get the faster I was. |

I noticed that the Ridgid Jointer is on clearance now for about 1/2 price. I’d go for it. -- Gene T |

I got the Ridgid a few months ago for $301. I would highly recommend it. |

I agree with Peter O. If you have the space, I would get the long bed, you wont regret it, but it does take up space. -- Wayne - Plymouth MN |
