Topic tags/keywords: toy chest hidden compartment

I’m planning to build toy chests for the twins and I’d like to incorporate a secret compartment into the chest but I’m struggling with how to make that happen. Ideally it should be something that you really don’t see unless you know what to look for and I’d love it if there was something that you have to do to unlock it. I’ve thought about a basic false bottom but the question is how do you get it out without having some kind of spring mechanism under it and how do you avoid that triggering when you put something on top of it?

Has anyone built something like this are does anyone have any ideas on how to build it?

Thanks

I remember a few years back someone built a toy box with a hidden compartment that he was going to keep secret till the boy turned 10. I had run across quite by accident when the kid was about 4 (I think), and he hadn’t found it yet.

Gimmie a minute and I’ll see if I can find it

Well geeze, I went back looking at the post and it seems that the kid may have lost the toy box. I wonder if John was able to retrieve it?
