For many years (50 or so) I’ve used compressor based spray guns with great results. Projects sprayed range from a couple of cars to house siding to “fine” furniture. I’ve got a pressure pot and several guns. I’ve sprayed automotive paint, lacquer, latex, etc. I guess that I must be approaching being an expert in spraying. Most current needs are for relatively small projects with lacquer but there may be a major project at times. I’m considering switching to HVLP and am wondering if I’d be satisfied with an Earlex 5500 or 6900 (same gun). All the reviews seem mostly very positive but many seem to be from a used with minimal spraying experience. My primary reason to want to try HVLP is the reduction in over spray from that of my current guns.

Tom, I have never used an Earlex gun so I can’t really answer your question. When I was in the market for a spray gun, I emailed Jeff Jewitt my list of criteria. He asked a few additional questions and then offered a couple options. I bought an AccuSpray 12S from him and have totally satisfied with it. HTH

With your level out experience, I don’t think you will be happy with the quality our results of any hplv system below the $500 price point. Which means the 6000 series Earlex, the Fujis, Apollos or Titans would be your starting point. Everything about systems at this level and up is leaps and bounds better than the next level down.
Even with my 2 years of using hplv systems, I’m finding I need something better than the Earlex 5500 I’m using. It is a nice setup but I’m wanting more control
