Woodturning Chuck Help

I went with the oneway talon. http://oneway.ca/chucks/talon.htm

It’s not cheap. Quality never is. I equate it to safety. It’s the only one I have any experience with. A chuck is a very useful item.

I use Oneway and I also have a Nova. In my opinion, those are the two best chucks out there.

Since you have a midi-lathe you could go with the Oneway Talon or the Teknatool Nova G3. Both of them are excellent chucks.

Stick with a chuck that has the T handle to tighten/loosen it. It is much easier to use than the double handled chucks.

Those are my suggestions. I know for sure you would not be disappointed in either of those chucks.

I’ve used a Oneway Talon for at least 10 years and I really like it. However, if I were buying a chuck today I would, most likely, buy the Barracuda 2. I have used it and I see no noticeable difference from my Oneway and it is quite a bit cheaper. It may not look that much cheaper until you considered that the Barracuda comes with 4 sets of jaws and the Oneway comes with only 1 set.

I’m another happy Talon owner . I would suggest it , however if you don’t want to spend that much look at the Nova Midi chuck Woodcraft has it on clearance for $95 . All of the Nova chucks can use the woodriver jaws as well .

Woodcraft has the Supernova 2 chuck on sale til the end of the month for $119.00 That is an excellent deal for this chuck which is usually $175.00. It has a lot of accessories available as well. I currently have the G3 chuck which works well enough but am going to upgrade to the SN2 due to price and also to have the 2nd chuck so I don’t constantly have to change my accessory chuck jaws using only one chuck. The SN2 is more highly rated than the G3 as well. You will need to buy the threaded insert to go along with the chuck for your particular lathe. Well worth checking out.
