Topic tags/keywords: mortise chisel bit powermatic

Hi all,

I’m in need of some help (again)! I just purchased a Powermatic Benchtop Mortiser and need to purchase some chisel and bits to go along with it. When looking on-line I can’t find a lot of information but do see they vary widely in price. Does anybody have a recommendation as to a brand that isn’t ridiculously expensive? Also, will all bits fit into my machine or do I have to get specific ones made for the Powermatic (701)? I’m completely lost here and any suggistions and eduication would be much appreicated!

Thank you!
David

Grizzly has some that are pretty low in cost … can’t attest to the quality, I have just noticed them in their catalog.

I have a Jet JBM5 and use only Jet chisels/bits that I buy from a local dealer. They are a little pricey, but I don’t expect to buy them very often.

Suggestion: Get a set of cone-shaped hones (Rockler has them, as do WoodCraft and others) to touch up your chisels and keep them sharp.
