Topic tags/keywords: question finishing

Hello. I am new to working with exotic woods. Just recently made a couple puzzle boxes. Two questions to ask. First..puzzle box made from bloodwood turned out beautifully…I so far have rubbed in two coats of Danish oil to be followed with wax. After 3 days of sitting the bloodwood has gotten a foggy appearance mostly on endgrain, but a little on the inside of the box too. Is this moisture or simply oil that could be rubbed/buffed off that has hardened? Do not have a moisture meter, wood seemed fairly dry at the start.
Second… was wondering about sealing the inside of the second box made from black and white ebony with a cyanacrylate adhesive. It appears the ebony would like to try and check on me. The interior of box is only 2×3, but how or should one go about that. I know turners do it on pen blanks, but I can’t turn this. Any advice please.

Neverstoplearning- Years ago I tried using an oil based finish on rosewood and the finish never dried. At that time I asked one of my learned professor at Cal State University Long Beach, where many industrial arts teacher began, about my problem and he suggested using a lacquer based product. Excellent results insued. That was 40 years ago. Now in the great state of Calif. Lacquer based products are only available in arosol spray cans. I would guess in your state you might find the brand name Deft available. Works great on Bloodwood just check out the jewelry boxes in my projects. Good luck – bob
