Topic tags/keywords: grizzly jointer 8

Found a G1018 on craigslist. Needs a new motor and cutter head. Guy is asking $400, which I wouldn’t pay. He also has a new in box 735X package. I was thinking of offering him $700 for the pair. I would then get a 2 or 3hp motor and then either get a standard cutter head for 75 or a shelix for $400. That would put me at about $850 to have an 8” jointer with a shelix or $550 with a standard cutter head. What do you all think? If the fence is straight and the tables are coplanar would you jump on it?

Thanks,

Chad

Well considering that getting the new one is close to 1400 dollars, plus the shipping too, if the tables are good then I would go for it

Well, we will see if he goes for it. If the tables are good it would be nice to have a lifelong jointer.

Jointer is $800 new. But it’s not new, it’s used, and hasn’t been well cared for or else it wouldn’t need a cutter head and motor. New motor is $275 and if a new cutter head is 75, then I’d say, to me, that jointer is worth about 50% new price minus the cost of replacement parts. In other words, that jointer is worth about $50-$100. FWIW, I just saw the exact same jointer sell on CL in my area for $450, but it was in flawless condition.

The planer….It’s worth every penny of $500. But I wouldn’t go much higher than that on principle.

I think I would offer him $550 for the pair. If he doesn’t jump, check up with him in a few weeks. Money talks.
