Found in a garage sale in Ohio. Guy said he bought it at an auction. Looking to make into mantel of bench just wondering what kind of wood it was. I think oak?

The bark and color look like cherry.

We’d be able to tell right away if it was oak with a picture of the end grain. With out better pictures looks like cherry.

Could also be walnut with the light sapwood band and the dark heartwood.

My first impression was walnut. Looks a bit dark to me for cherry.

My first impression was walnut but the bark says elm or cherry.
