Hey Guys

Rockler has an HVLP 1.4 mm spray gun on sale and I have a question about it. What kind of compressor do you hook it to? It says it needs 15 to 50 PSI? Is this a rather small compressor? What would some of you recommend to meet this need? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

John,

The problem with conversion HVLP (the hvlp guns that connect to a compressor) is not the PSI requirements but the airflow requirements (CFM). A small compressor can easily put out 50PSI but can only get about 4CFM. Most guns would need 8-12 CFM.

For 100$ Rockler is selling an HVLP gun with turbine (included). I have it and it works great for shellac (probably polyurethane as well).

Thanks for the quick reply. This sounds like it might be the way to go. What model is it you are using? And, yes, I would be spraying quick-dry polyurethane – water based version.
