No coffee table, but here’s one of two end tables I made for Xmas ‘08. They’re red oak with glass inserts in the top salvaged from the old tables we had used since the ‘70’s.

Have you found any end tables that you like on here, or elsewhere? If you have, just shorten the legs, and stretch everything out. I know that’s a basic suggestion, but that way, you can make it to whatever dimensions work for your situation. Do you want drawers, shelves, anything else?

For instance, in the example above, you could use the same height on the aprons for both the end tables and coffee tables. They’d just be longer.

Jonathan, thats a nice end table, gives me an idea what my red oak will look like.
I am making in total 2 coffee tables and 4 end tables, bought about 280 bd ft of red oak and then a reg oak paid just .75 a bd ft called saw mill they wanted $ 2.75 a board ft and priced in home hardware finished smoothness ready to use very costly.
I have a mastercraft 12.5 inch planer, so the oak l bought l planed it myself, now sanding with orbit sander.

Johnathan your end table looks very nice set up in your home setting, a coffee table should be no problem to design to match end tables.
When l finish them will be awhile from now will post for you to see, mine won’t look as nice l am just a beginner.
The help, advice, direction, from you and many others here on LJ’s my last blog entry, l regret writing was very depressed but have been lifted, inspired by you Johnathan and many others on LJ.

Thanks very much, could you tell me what finishes you put on your tables l know very little about finishes.
Just curious, what is measurements of your end table?

Thanks again so much

Jim,

Sorry, that is not my end table.

It belongs to sawkerf.

Maybe he can answer your questions?

Sawkerf,

Thanks for including that link to Industrial Plywood. I had not found their site yet. I had only done a quick search for QSWO plywood before, but will probably end up going with rift sawn. I think I’ll use 1/4” for the back, but have yet to decide on the actual caracass frame. If I don’t go with hardwood, I’ll go with the 3/4” RSWO plywood.

I like to look for pictures and find things I like about different ones, then make my own plan. I use Google Images or Bing Images and just enter end table or coffee table. You’ll get loads of pictures.

Good Luck,
Bob
