Topic tags/keywords: question dust collector cyclone

I am looking for a new dust collector and have been reviewing 3 hp cyclones.

One that is I find interesting is the Oneida Smart Dust Collectors. My understanding is that the motor is variable speed and adjusts itself so that it creates more suction (static pressure) at lower cfm. This means greater suction if you are using a 2.5” dust port.

It works because it is a 3 phase motor run from a VFD.

Does anyone have one and how has it performed. I have found some reviews and comments from 4-5 years ago but very little recently.

According to their specs, it can do 385 CFM with 2.5” hose. That’s very impressive. I wonder how high RPM they turn the motor.

I happened to do a similar thing for my dust collector (VFD), but I did it with a Clear Vue and 5HP motor. So far I have not run it higher than 66 Hz for the power (which should be in the 3800 RPM range). Mine is of course 100% manual control, but I suppose it would be possible to control it with a smaller computer (like Raspberry Pi).

I am so glad I went with the clear vue with the big impeller.

Nice ad for this Oneida system but just not powerful enough.

79 to 82 dbs haha…call them up and see if they take it back and pay shipping when your db meter goes above that.

not sure how all the companies can lie so on the db rating.

Have your say...
