Topic tags/keywords: thickness sander question sanding

I bit the bullet and started building a thickness sander. I just sanded the drum round. Every thing looks good so far. The next step will be to mount the sand paper.

What is the best way to mount the sand paper? 1- Glue it to the drum? How do you change it if you do that? 2- Fasten it only on the ends using a wedge. Will this run smooth? 3- Velcro this has advantages but will the softness round the edges?

What is the best grit paper to use?

i used psa velcro on mine , it worked just fine. no round edges. i fastened the ends of the sand paper down with 1/2 inch wide wrap of duct tape. never had it come loose.
