last summer I bought a Rockwell 4’ jointer and the guy threw in a set of 8’ blades that he said could be cut in half, Hss T1 thin knives,,,,can I cut them or should they go to a machine shop…can they even be cut without losing integrity

You won’t be able to use a hack saw. It just won’t do it. You could cut them if you have an abrasive cutter, and will probably turn the ends blue about a 1/4” from the cut.. If it’s HHS, that shouldn’t hurt….. If you have a sharpening service nearby, have them cut them for you…...... Jerry

Holbren is a good spot for replacement knives. Run ya about $20. Id be a bit hesitant to cut any knives in half personally.

Vonfalken, if your jointer will allow for rabbets, have the sharpening service put a cutting edge on the outboard side of the knives. It makes a world of difference when rabbeting instead of that blunt 90° edge usually found on jointer knives….... Jerry (in Tucson)

yup too long for my truck hadda rent a trailer to haul them,,,,an 8’ jointer that would really be something tho
