Topic tags/keywords: tool review question resource

I got an idea, or maybe it’s just gas…I’d like to see a search bar, or forum added for a “Tool Review” posted by fellow members. In other words, say I just bought a new Festool tablesaw. I could post the make and model number and my review. Now say you are looking for the same one…You could type in the make and model number and read this review. Good or bad, it would be my personal thoughts and it could be a resource for anyone looking to buy, to make that informed decision. It would also give you a buddy who’s “got one too” that may be able to help you with troubleshooting yours.

*Just gas huh?

are there other ways to achieve the same thing?
The new tag system should help… perhaps the search options (Martin now has “all except store”) perhaps could be “search reviews” only..
my biggest worry is that this “easy to use” site gets so full of tools that it becomes complicated to use.

Dadoo, I think you may be on the right track. I’m starting to see the same questions about routers and chopsaws asked by new members. If we had a listing of all the forums on machinery and tools it might save us from repeating ourselves. I think most of us feel obligated to answer when we see someone with a question. It would be easier to refer them to a source within the site.

It’s a big problem with all special interest sites. People don’t use the search feature and just ask a question. No problem as most don’t mind answering it again. However, with this site, the tag system is unique and new users, even if forum savvy, will not be tag savvy…this will lead to further confusion. If people get used to the site a bit before posting, we don’t seem to see duplication, but one of the major reasons I have trouble plowing through other forums is the same question being asked once a week for the last 2 years by 104 different users. It happens. You should have to write a test before you can post. LOL. But then, I bet we’ve all done it from time to time…that is, posting without searching first.

It seems to be a good idea in theory.

If anyone can figure out how to come up with a good solution, it’s Martin.

My bet is after reading dadoo’s post, he can’t help but to do some thinking about it.

It’s in his blood, as they say!

Like me and furniture, ah, the challenge.

Hey, thanks for mentioning this. I already have clear picture of new Reviews section in mind. Should be in production soon ;) I finally think that adding separate Reviews is worth it thanks to LJ growth.
