I’m rearranging my shop and I want to make a massive workbench/setup table the centerpiece.
Size is not a issue. I’m lucky enough to have a 60×40 Morton building that I was using as a work shop and auto shop but I don’t work on my car that much so I’m converting it all to wood shop

Any ideas for plans. I want it to have vises and bench hold-downs

Just look around the site. Their’s plenty of pics. Here and I’m sure in a short time you’ll have a good many answere. I’m building one in the next few days and need to find out how thick I can build the top and make sure the bench dogs work well. I believe 5 in. But not sure. Another thing, I’m building mine out of SYP. I’m not going to use 2 in. Maple or anything like that to beat up with a mallet. I’d much rather use maple to build something for the house.

Some of the nicest benches I have ever seen have been on this site, and I have been doing this kind of work a long time.I too am in the process of putting together the materials for a bench.I have enough 3×6 maple and cherry for a 26×96”x4 1/2” top and some 5×5 ash for the base.I’m shooting for a modified shaker style bench with drawers in the base. I want it to be heavy.I’m undecided about the vises though,I’m thinking just a front vise and a wagon vise because I have 2 older front vises and I’ve already taken one of them apart to use some of the parts to make my own wagon vise.It won’t be a benchcraft but it should still work.

Good luck with your build and check out some of the benches here on LJ,it’ll blow your mind
