I just purchased a nova g3 chuck friday at the woodshow. I would like to know your oppinions about it pro’s and con’s.. And any tips that I may want to know about it.

Thanks Tim:

I can’t speak explicitly about the Nova chuck except to say that I think Nova makes first class lathes. I use a OneWay chuck and I use it a lot. When I can, I prefer to use my chuck on the end of spindle turning in lieu of a driver.

I find that a drop or two of oil on the gears every month or so helps it work smoothly. I also make certain that I never put the chuck on my lathe without inserting that little plastic washer (don’t know what it is called). Otherwise, it can really be hard to get it off if you have been doing some heavy duty turning. Note – you can make your own plastic washers out of a gallon milk container.
