I picked up a bunch of scraps and full length pieces of black walnut on Sunday and was curious to what it would have cost me if I paid full price. I got roughy 20/6’ of 1×6, loads of short lengths from 12’-48”. Plywood cuts and loads of trim all for $150. I estimate it at 700 lf. I usually donate my time and make furniture for the needy so we paint everything but am planning on keeping some of this for my stock and making jigs. Same day I also purchased 1×10x8 of regular walnut for $40 wet and I am purchasing tomorrow 1 1/2 X 22 X 8 4 -cherry 4- black walnut 4-wormy ash for $200 wet. Does that sound like a good price?

I don’t know if it is just me but I am having a hard time figuring out how many board feet you bought for your $150, $40 and $200 purchases.

I typically pay $2.00 per board foot or less for air dried Black Walnut.

Dimensioned walnut is going for $9 a bf in the northeast. Ive seen rough cut material sell for between $3 and $5 / bf.

The Hardwood Market Report publishes the average wholesale price for hardwood species in tractor trailer load quantities FOB sawmill, that is, loaded on the truck at the mill, so it does not include freight or hauling cost. The current price for rough sawn, kiln dried black walnut is $4.00 per BF. #1 common is selling for 2.10 per BF. Again, this is for tractor trailer load quantities.
