This is very strange, hopefully someone can help me fix it.

On February 20, 2015 I posted about the bandwidth the adds on this site were consuming, and the fact they were slowing the site response time down to the point, where I didn’t even enjoy the site anymore.

A few days after the post, something changed and I began seeing adds in text form only, no graphics, no videos. This was great, I could still see the companies who were advertising on the site and could support them, but did not have the delays the high graphic adds were causing. How did this happen? I did not change anything on my end.

Today, ironically exactly 1 year later the high bandwidth adds are back? Why did the site change back? Again, I did nothing to my computer last year, and did nothing this year. This is the only site that I visit regularly where this is happening. Can someone please take this back to text adds only, or tell me how to change my settings for this site only?

Thanks

Adblock will speed the site up greatly.

Understood,(TinWhiskers) but that effects all adds on all sites. I think it’s important to support the companies that keep sites like this running, and make sure they know we are clicking on them from this site so that they continue to advertise here. Something changed last year, and now it changed back. If I could just get back to the text only adds like I had last night, it would be great.

Afraid it seems there will always be a battle with the admaniacs. Possibly it is ONE of the advertisers causing the slowdown. Till then Adblock companies are our way to fight back. I installed Adblock because of this site.

Adblock can be disabled/enabled.

In IE…

Tools/ Manage Add-ons/ Right click Adblock and select enable/disable.

Send a pm to cricket. Maybe they can shed some light on the ads and the bandwidth.

I’ve got the same thing happening on mine, too….I was trying to get on last night, and LJs kept getting knocked off, then a tab would come on saying “OOP’s….something’s not right”...then go off….Please fix it, Cricket…..

I am a pathological ad blocker. But, if you use Adblock Plus, you can disable it on any site where you still want to see ads. This preferences is remembered the next time that you visit the site. Sometimes I like to disable it here for a laugh. The last time I did, the first ad that I saw proclaimed “Social Security Sucks!”

Last one I got many moons ago before I redirected via a hosts file:

I’m suffering from the same thing now. It took me over 10 minutes to type a PM that should have taken less than 20 seconds. Googleleads I think is what I’m seeing that’s slowing everything down to a snails pace.

Been using Ghostery and I have zero adds here. It will let me block any “tracker” that tries to follow me around, it will tell which ones there are, and allows me to block or not block

And…it is FREE.

Thank you for your patience while I worked through this.

The return of the image style ads was not intentional. It was a mistake made in the ad tagging process. This has been fixed. Logged in users should once again be seeing plain text ads. The only exception to this will be for those times when we have a woodworking related sponsor for the community.
