Topic tags/keywords: dresser night stand red oak router question

So I was building a stand for my drill press, with a drawer for drill bits. Once it was all put together I thought it would look good with an Oak face frame. Lol after the face frame was finished. I was thinking… this actually might make a good night stand for next to my bed with an oak top instead.
So I ripped a couple red oak boards, glued them together for the top.

I was thinking of putting a piece of plywood underneath the top and adding more oak trim around the plywood to make it seem like the top is an 1 1/2 inch thick, but haven’t decided yet.

Now I’m just trying to figure out what profile to use going around the perimeter of the oak top. Any ideas?

I just don’t want to do a simple round over or chamfer, but sometimes when you add a round over above a chamfer all in one profile. It can look kind of cool. Is there any combined profiles that anyone can think of or just any profile in general. Still new to using a router

Any ideas would be appreciated!

I’m going to assume that you’ve got a bench top drill press in mind. I think the extra thick wrapped in oak would look really cool. May suggest that you use Watco Medium walnut stain and a nice poly varnish. I’ve done numerous project with it and found it gives the oak an aged look. Also it kinda, sort of looks like your cabinet needs casters.

I’ve never had a drill press next to my bed, but I suppose it could come in handy!?

Roman Ogee profile would look nice.

Lol my original idea was a drill press stand. Then I decided it would look good with some oak trim, but once I made the oak top. It was no longer a drill press stand, but now a night stand lol. Weird how things turn out. Now I just got to make a matching one for other side of bed. Then a drill press stand because I still need one lol
