Our current customer insisted on solid wood drawers for their kitchen. I have been wanting to make solid wood dovetail drawers for a long time but have never set up any router to do this task. So I am very pleased with the result. The pins and tails fit snug and tight and just looks excellent.
We built 20 drawers. I cut 80 side parts from soft maple 13/16”. I ran all of the parts through our “new to us” Jet planer, it worked flawlessly. Just minimal knife marks. I planed down to about 1/32” over 5/8”. I then ran all of the parts through our drum sander taking everything to 5/8” and very flat. Then on to the dovetailing, which by now has become “old hat” when using our Akeda jig. Everything went off without any problems which is how I like it. The drawers look great and my customer I am confident will love them.
I will also post about my new experience using the tandem undermount soft close drawer glides. I guess I will do that post in the hardware section though.
Any input is welcome. Sorry no pics. When the kitchen is installed in about 2 weeks we will take pics of everything to include our new solid wood drawers and post them on the site.
