Topic tags/keywords: plane millers falls no 9 rosewood hardwood smoothing chrome jappaning

Here for sale is a terrific Millers Falls No. 9 smoothing plane. The MF #9 is similar in size to a Stanley #4. If your not familiar with Millers Falls planes, they are every bit as good as vintage Stanleys, and much better than newer Stanleys.
This one is in fantastic condition, likely dating from the early ‘40’s. The japanning is as near to 100% as I’ve ever seen, and the chrome plating is about 95% with only minor scratches and dings. The blame has been finely honed to 8000 grit and cuts like a dream. There is really very little wrong with the plane. If I were to nit pick, it’s that the front knob is rosewood but the tote is hardwood. I have no reason to believe that both are not original. Millers Falls made that change in about 1941, and if they were like other companies of that time, they likely used up old stock and may have mix matched. But who knows. Anyway, a terrific plane. Asking $85.

Hey RS, I am new to LJ, what kind of payment would you accept, and how much would it cost to ship the plane to Florida? Also, do you have a better picture of the sole?

Thanks,
Rob

Apparently I have not posted enough to send PM’s, although I am now only 3 posts short of such privilege. My zip is 32259. Thanks.

No problem Rob. Please bare with me as I’m a shift worker and may take a day to get back to you with a postage cost and pics of the sole.
Thanks!

Hi Ryan, I recently purchased a thickness planer off a friend of yours and he recommended I join the forum and track you down in my search for some bench planes. I cannot PM yet either because this is my first post. But I can also be reached by text or phone call at 780 686 5345 if its easier for you.
Thanks,
Darren
