I just picked up a WEN Drill press that I ordered 4 days ago. Really happy with it. Very solid.

Outside of the colors, it looks almost exactly like my brand new, out of the box Porter Cable! What did you pay for it?

$399
!5” Variable speed, light, laser. I almost bought the Porter cable. haha. This is a little taller and heavier. I really liked the porter cable and thats what started me looking around. I have a small bench top, but I’m still setting up my shop and this takes up less room. I have a very small basement shop.

On line thru Walmart of all places. lol I chose to pick it up at a local store, so no shipping. If you pick it up, get some help as it is quite heavy. When I saw the price and features, I thought I’d give it a try. Most places sold it for $80-$150 more. It’s so quiet and I love being able to change speeds so easily. Laser is kind of a cool feature too.

How do you like the PC? I was thinking of picking one up at Lowes.

I think you made a good choice and made a good buy. Who would-a-thought Wallmart. Do a review after you use it for awhile

I only tested it on a 4×4 piece . I used a 1” Forsner bit. Cut true and clean. I’ll let you know. Still getting the shop finished. I have to put together my Harbor freight dust collector now. lol

I liked the base also. It seemed a little more stable than some others I’ve seen. I hope I made a good choice. We’ll see.

Most older drill presses had the same base, minus the four out-riggers that yours has. Other newer DP may have the same thing, but haven’t seen them until this model. Makes it easier to mount to the floor.

you may have just restored my faith in WEN products, also looks like that porter cable is no longer being made.

I’ve only had mine a couple of weeks. That being said I’m pretty happy with it. I live in a no sales tax state, Oregon. One of it’s few redeeming qualities! However the closest Lowe’s is 300 miles from me in the Great State of Willamette. So I opted to spend a couple of days playing with my grandson in Boise and paid an extra 6%. Pretty tough trade off, don’t you think?
My Porter Cable was super easy to put together. The laser sight was spot on out of the box. I’m not impressed with the light switch and am pretty sure I’ll be replacing it in the future. It’s super smooth and quiet. I am, by no means a machinist, nor do I require that level of accuracy. This is my first drill press ever, so I have little to gauge it by. So far though, I am satisfied with it.

I have a Grizzly drill press, 14” – Always thought the Variable speed would be a nice feature. Wonder what the long term reliability of this will be. Certainly can’t beat that price!
