Topic tags/keywords: question

recently a young man , JACOB , from australia , asked us for some advise about a project he might make .
SIMPLE ?
http://lumberjocks.com/topics/14448
the responces set of a firestorm of contrasting coments .
that ranged from
go for it !
to
get real , kid !
having been in his shoes ,
and not getting any help as a homeless kid myself ,
( not implying that he is homeless or a kid ) ,
i had to go to prison , where i had to struggle to be taught woodworking .
in todays world of acces to almoast every imaginable knowledge ,
it seems that we as a people have lost something valuable .
HUMAN COURTESY and COMPASION !
everyone wants world peace ?
some aparently want world domination , with them on top !
it is aparently human to have everyone do as we say,
’ i suffered , so you have to too ’ .
JACOB IS ALL OF US !
do we dream , YES .
are we where we want to be in life , maybe .
do we care about our own children , YES .
can we care about any other ?
i have seen many here show pictures of their children/grandchildren ,
to responses like , ’ wow , a future woodworker ’ ,

and yet when jacob asked for help here , he was ridiculed by some , WHY ?
do we assume that he lives in a vacuum ?
that his parents aren’t proud and suportive of him ?
that his dreams aren’t as good as ours ?
when i got out off prison , this is what i did ,
i designed it and taught any one that wanted to learn carpentry ,
and had up to 50 workers , at the age of 22 !

SHALL WE DENY JACOB THE HELP TO REALISE HIS DREAMS ?
i have left the spelling as i wrote it , thats who i am , this is how i spell .
i did get a GED in prison too , but raised in mexico didn’t tech me much english .
as allways i thank all my LJ friends , and i respect all opinions expresed ,
i just can’t accept belittleing behavior !
i know many colledge graduates , that cost many parents dearly ,
that never used their degrees for anything , exept to keep from doing something for themselves .
most work at menial jobs , and accept what comes their way , and just remember dreaming
as something they didn’t finish .
JACOB , PLEASE ACCEPT MY APOLOGY FOR THIS , CALL ANYTIME I CAN BE OF HELP .

ps , sorry for the rambleing , i’m just shorting out with emotion !

David,
Let me be the first to agree with your sentiments.
As always, I am touched by your kindness.

Jacob, as Forrest Gump said “I am not a smart man”,...But if there is any help I can provide, please do not hesitate to ask!

David the world would be a better place if there were more people like you. I, too, was so outraged that some had ridiculed Jacob that I couldn’t sleep without the commitment to encourage him. It was heartwarming to see so many others speak up as well. Here’s a high five from me. You are a light in the darkness. Way to go!!!!!!!!

Great Post once again, my Friend.
With our burgeoning membership here, I’m hoping we’re not seeing the first signs of things to come. Cyber- bullying is no joke, but it’s prevalent on every “Mainstream” site on the Web…
Courtesy, unfortunately, is becoming a lost art, instead of second nature as it should be…
I tell every young person willing to listen to follow their heart! There is nothing in the World that they can’t do or accomplish, provided they apply the correct measures of Desire and Hard Work!
To Jacob: Make your Dreams Reality, Young Man!! Your whole life you’re going to meet people who say you can’t, or shouldn’t, but consider the sources! They’re usually people who haven’t and won’t!... Take advice from people who are successful, if you want to be a success, not from people who say “You’ll never make it!”, or that “It can’t be done!” Listen to that Patron fellow! His Heart is in the Right Place!!
