My dad is looking for a lumber supplier in the southwest Houston area (Sugar Land). He has had trouble locating someone that supplies good quality plywood and dimensional lumber (planed on both sides and jointed on at least one edge). I would really appreciate any input.

Home Depot sells Oak, Pine, and Poplar as you describe. HOWEVER, especially in this humid environment, acclimating to a different environment (out of HD’s shelves, and into your garage shop for example) can change moisture content, and in turn, cause warping. Your dad would be FAR better off buying rough lumber and milling it. I have seen a mess of planers and jointers on Craigslist locally on the cheap lately…

I believe Houston Hardwoods may provide planing and jointing services for an added fee. Not real sure, never use it…
