I want to make a three color cutting board with purple heart as the main wood.

You have to understand that I have the fashion sense of a rock. I have to take someone clothes shopping with me if I intend to match when I leave. With that said, I need help trying to decide on the third wood.

If you have purpleheart and hard maple, what would you use for the third wood?

thanks for the help.

My vote is for Jatoba (Brazilian Cherry). In the same hardness range and a reddish hue.

if design would allow i would go with some tight grain walnut in thin strips, cause we dont want much walnut in cutting boards, (softness and toxicity) , then use a GOOD oil ,one that has driers and resins(waterlox or general finish seal a cell), Formbys tung oil, or minwax poly oil), I think the walnut would give a nice richness, but would suggest using a polyurethane glue due to the diversity of woods, just my thoughts

Thanks guys. I don’t have much walnut left in the hole – but I just happen to have a very nice piece of Brazilian Cherry. I’ll have to give that a try.
