Topic tags/keywords: resource question

First of all, I have to say that since joining a week ago I’ve had a very positive feeling about this website. Everyone who’s comments I’ve read on other posts, and people who have posted on my wall have been very welcoming to the site, and I appreciate that. It really shows a love and dedication to what you do, and towards the people who share your interests.

That being said, does anyone in the northeast corner of Indiana (or surrounding area) know of any good hardwood and plywood suppliers in the area? I’ve been searching for quite a while and the big box stores just aren’t cutting it anymore.

Any tips/advice would be appreciated.

LL Johnson Lumber Co. in Michican has an awesome selection and good prices. I drove there from Cleveland to purchase some 8/4 mohogany for an entrance door I will share with fellow LJ’s in the next couple of days. Also, Iowa8 told me about the Frank Miller Lumber Co. in Union City Indiana. Apparently each spring they sell large quantities of hardwoods at deep discounts. I plan on going there as well. I hope these places are in close proximity to your location. Good luck and welcome to LJ’s!!

I keep meaning to check in to a place off of U.S. 30 between Columbia City and Warsaw. I drive by it every day and see hole logs setting out being prepared for shipment elsewhere. My guess is that this place sells to furniture makers, but I pulled their phone number off the sign they had sitting out. I know that they don’t sell plywood, but they might be willing to sell lumber to a consumer. The major downside is I haven’t seen them cutting down the lumber to be dried. Don’t know if this is helpful, but if you’re interested send me a message and I can pass along the phone number.

There is an Amish place (heck, there are about 1000 Amish places around here!) in Goshen, Indiana on Country Road 35 called Nisley’s. They have an excellent selection of hardwoods and fairly inexpensive. They might have a phone number if I can find it, but be aware they don’t answer it much as the Amish don’t use phones!!. (They eventually do get back to you if you leave a message). Hope this helps.

I second Goggy’s recommendation. L L Johnson’s Lumber has a great selection and I see that they deliver to your area. If you have the time, they have a huge warehouse so that you can select your own lumber.
