Topic tags/keywords: question

Someone’s selling a G2790 in decent shape not too far from me for $75 and I wanted see if anyone has any experience good or bad with this. I would be using it primarily for 8” and 12” jointer knives, possibly longer planer knives in the future if I can find a good deal on a big boy planer. All opinions are welcome and thanks in advance!

at $75 for a nearly $300 dollar unit I think I would try it if you have enough blades to justify. But then, I have bought tools not out of necessity but because they were a good deal and either adapted to use them or flip ‘em
My experience in sharpening things amount to rubbing a scraper across some 400 grit paper other than that I bite the bullet and pay someone to sharpen my ‘stuff’.

Buying things because they’re a good deal is a bad habit I’m trying to break myself of, that’s why I thought I’d ask before just buying it. The guy who does my knives now charges $1/in. and does a good job, but I paid him over $100 last year and especially if I get a big planer that number could go up quite a bit.

that bad habit can have a cash flow if you’re careful and want to deal with people. PM on the way

Must have been a good deal, I checked the ad again less than a day after the post and it was gone.

Have your say...
