Was rummaging at my local saw mill and came across this piece. He said he got in trade for some mesquite. He was told it was maple burl. Being that we don’t have many maple trees down here in south Texas. Can anyone help confirm this?

I got no idea what it is. Could it be a slab from a residential tree? It sure is nice looking. Should make a real nice live edge table.

That’s exactly what i’m gunna do with it. And he has the sister cut to make a matching table.

The grain looks like oak to me.

@Paul, it does kinda look like oak, just not used them being so “clean” down here, out windswept oaks are so full of cracks.

@Bob, LOL , sure will, but it’s on the back of the list, I’m working in a 8’ x 20” bar top.
