I was given a #45 but it only has the 3/8 cutter and is missing a few other parts. I am thinking I will just keep it for parts for when I get a more complete set. but I was wondering if I should sell this one, buy a set of cutters, or save it for parts.

If the castings are good, and you have most the parts aside from the blades, I would keep it and get blades. St. James Bay Tool makes a set of new ones, really great quality for a fair price. He also makes other replacement parts which are listed in the link. Give him a call, he’s a great guy to chat with. I was on the phone with him for over an hour last time I ordered from him :)

Good idea. What parts are missing?

If they are not critical it will be a usable plane.

Blades can be expensive. They routinely go for like $15 on Ebay. Last time I checked St James only had unhardened blanks. I picked up a complete set with original box for about $50 on Ebay.
