Topic tags/keywords: purple heart wood wide board

Hey guys. I have this 8/4 piece of PH that is 78” long and 12” wide. Other than accent pieces and cutting boards I have no clue how to best utilize it. I also have about 40 bf of pecan and 10 bf of cherry. And small scraps of everything else. Any ideas?

I hate to cut it into smaller pieces if I can help it.

I can’t EVEN imagine cutting that up for a cutting board. Using it for a very nice box of some sort, mirror frame might be the way to use it for visual presentation. Something that won’t get all beat up.
Just my thoughts.

Do NOT use purpleheart for food prep, it may produce allergic reactions in some.

Make memorial flag boxes out of purpleheart. It’s the most appropriate wood.

Alright, I’ll say it. Send it to me.

Cylon, resaw it and make it into a panel that you can then cut into the shape of Barney for your kids. :D

Seriously, I would make a Krenov style cabinet, such as this one. If neither of those suggestions float your boat, send it to Wayne.

Bill, I like the idea of a box. Or maybe lots of boxes, ha!

MadMark, oh gosh I hope it doesn’t. I’ve used it in lots of end grain cutting boards. No problems yet. I’ll keep that in mind though.

Wayne, haha. I walked right into that one.

Art, I’ll look into Krenov cabinets. Thank you.

Smooth it, varnish it, and hang it on the wall like a picture.

Nice piece of wood!
I’d really think a bit on what to do with it.

Now I understand why my daughter loves purpleheart so much…

The sad part is that I have a piece just like that, but only 4’ long. (long sigh).

I’ll sit on it a while. It’ll probably end up in cutting boards and accent pieces. But I won’t run out anytime soon!

Cut it up into little pieces and spread the dust on the winds.
