I wanted to share my progress with my wartime 5 1/2 I picked up at a swap meet. It was completely sprayed flat black primer over rust. It was so far gone I just had it media blasted.

I figured I could choose something other than black for the finish since I had to start over anyway. I sprayed several light coats of engine primer, and then engine enamel, and then engine enamel clear. For the handles, I used black lacquer. They still need a coat of clear and the handle screws need to be polished because they’re rough on the hands thanks to corrosion from rust. I also have some sanding on the sole and sides to do too. But since I’m so close I couldn’t wait to see it together.

I’m not too terrific at color coordination so I stayed simple. The lever cap was un-plated (screws are un-plated as well) and well rusted. I figured I might as well paint it. However it will chip in use and I’m fine with that until I fine a nicer replacement.

Anyway thanks for checking it out.

Looks functional, time to sharpen it up and let it eat! Oh, and I have one of those types as well. But it’s not in as good a shape as yours is now…
