I have been thinking about getting a scroll saw for the last few months and after researching I decided the Hitachi CW40 sold at Lowes was the best saw for me in my price range. I was in no hurry to get the saw so I have been watching for sales. I noticed several weeks ago the Hitachi was no longer being listed online although it was still in my local stores. I asked a clerk a couple of weeks ago if it was being discontinued and he said not that he was aware of. Well, today I went to Lowes and the saw was on clearance for $159 down from the normal price of $179. The clerk on duty told me that it was indeed being discontinued. Since my local Lowes honors active and retired military with 10% off all year round I purchased the saw for a final price of $143.10. I don’t know what is going on with the scroll saw market, but it looks like the pickings of something in between the $89 or $99 bottom line saw and the best hobby saw (Delta) at >$500 are getting pretty slim.
