I want to build a bookshelf and use wood prick post on each side. I looked at them at Lowes and their hollow wood. How do I split them so I have a flat back surface to mount to shelf

I’m not familiar with Lowes stock. Can you describe the post a little more? Is it a hollow post, made from 1 x lumber?

If you split this on the table saw, can you fit a 1 x into the void? Would it be simpler to start from scratch and make your own sides?

Can you post a rough sketch?
