Topic tags/keywords: jointer planer

Once again i turn to lumberjocks for answers. You guys have always come thru. So… i searched for a little bit online to try and find where i can send my joiner blades to get sharpened. Anyone have any recommendations? All the places i saw were for knives. I will check a couple local hardware stores tomorrow, figured id try lumberjocks out first. Thanks again

Make a jig and sharpen them yourself. It is easier than you think. I built this one http://lumberjocks.com/projects/70562 and it works great. The blades work better now then when I had them professionally sharpened.

Contact the ones you have identified and ask them where you can take them to. Call any local cabinet shop and ask them. Make a jig and sharpen them yourselves. Depending on size, it’s sometimes cheaper just to buy new knives and sharpen the old ones yourself as a backup set. Lots of options.

Cheers,
Brad

Jointer blades are called “knives.” So you can take them to the sharpening services and get them done right.

After a cursory search, I haven’t found any services in daphne or mobile either.

Worst case, I know a place you can ship to. Sharpening center of LA. I send my knives to them.

Best Grinding in Tulsa, Ok sharpens all my blades. And they do an excellent job.

Was going to mention that blade/knife thing! On the jointer they are “knives”. I have 2 sets of 6”ers in need of sharpening…might experiment with one set using Geekworker’s method.

I think you’ll find the cost of new blades vs. sharpening service isn’t that much, especially if you have to ship them.

Depends on the size. Had 2-10 and 3-6 knives sharpened for 25$.
