I had a thought and wondered what other LJ’s projects looked like when they first started wood working or was away from wood working for a long period of time. What did your projects look like when finished and was you really pleased with the finished project?
I found a box I had made for my wood burning tool and tips. Upon inspection of the box I noticed lose corner joints starved for glue and coming apart. The wood burning on the top of the box is marginal at best. The finish yellowed and is cracking along with a few finger prints inbedded into the finish where I put it on to thick but did not wait long enough for it to dry before I handled it.
The box is built from cedar fencing material.
This box was built in 91 and surprisingly enough it is still togather.

Now that a few months/years later I hope to think my talents have improved just a bit.
This is a post from days gone by…....and after seeing them side by side I can’t believe I was happy with the first box.

Lets show where we started and where we are now.

I don’t have any photos of my first couple of box attempts, but I can definitely identify with what you are saying. Projects I was pretty proud of at the time I completed them now look like they were done by a one-armed grade school kid. :-)

Like Charlie, I don’t have any photos of my first project. It was a corner wall cabinet made from cherry/cherry plywood. I managed to get the carcass together but never did get the face frame completed. It ended up on our deck as a plant stand and eventually the sun/rain finally did it in.

My first projects are the projects that I have posted on here. I think that the only other thing that I have done as far as woodworking goes is a set of satellite speaker sconces out of ipe and I don’t have a pic of them.
