Topic tags/keywords: router question

I tried to insert a 1/2” diam. bit into the 1/2” collet of my 2 1/4” plunge router by Triton. The opening was not large enough. After trying some things I found my collet has changed shape and needs to be replaced. The collet will not come out of my router. I called Busy Bee Tools for a new collet and they said Triton was sold to the states and they no longer carry their tools.
The Triton website is no longer providing dealers in Canada. I wrote Triton an email…
How can I get a 1/2” Triton collet in the GTA so I can continue using my router.

I can’t fit bits in it. I haven’t used it in a couple months.

It could be your bits I had a set one time that I did not paid that much for they work fine but I had to sand them down, some were a little bigger than 1/2 in.
I just took some fine sand paper and just turned themi n my hand a few times.

I tried lee valley bits and blue tornado and they both fit in my router table mounted router. Just not the hand held one. They are both Tritons. sigh

are the reliefs in your collet squished? I know that sometimes i get gunk in my collets that will “glue” the reliefs together and they i cant get the bits out or in.

eBay? Amazon.com?

-- - Jei, Rockford IL - When in doubt, spray it with WD-40 and wrap it with duct tape. The details will attend to themselves.

Woodcraft carries Triton Routers. They may be able to order replacement collets.

-- Hey, woodworking ain't brain surgery. Just do something and keep trying till you get it. Doc
