So I just finished putting together a simple dust collection using a ridgid 5HP shop vac and some hose and PVC. Most of the dust is going into a bucket but a good amount of it is still ending up in the vac.
Where am I going wrong? What is causing dust getting in the vac?

You have a separator? What kind?

Other than that, then where else would the dust go if not the vac?
Even with a separator, you’re still going to have dust go into the vacuum. How much depends on what you have and how efficient it is.

Sorry forgot to mention Oneida separator. I’ve seen videos with this setup and people get virtually no dust in the vac.

Make sure your hose to the vac is hooked to the top ot the Oneida and the actual collector hose is connected to the side inlet. They really work great and collect most of the dust.

Make sure there is a tight seal on the bucket to make sure there are no air leaks where the lid attaches to the bucket.

i have two of the plastic dust deputy . did you fix the problem . i found when a lot of debris was getting sucked up the little cyclone easily got overwhelmed and sent it on to the vac . i then made one using ducting sheetmetal .made it longer ,handles alot more material .i have put the two back to back and that did well also .well seems i do not know how to get photos off new computer .
